With musical teaching experience in New York City, Portland, Pittsburgh, and Southeastern PA (where he’s from), and now Ashland OR, Dan Sherrill has been cultivating wholesome teaching spaces where students of all ages can find fulfillment and joy through the wonders of music. With a strong leaning towards the teaching fundamentals involved in Waldorf education, his teaching techniques involve movement, singing, dancing, and playing. Effectively integrating the knowledge inherent within our bodies to aid the progress of learning a particular rhythm, song, style.
After graduating from The University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Music, he has been teaching professionally for 7 years, and performing professionally since 2009. He has taught children of 5 and 6 the ukulele and banjo and adults of 70+ the guitar, music theory, and (surprisingly enough) the flute. Each student has very unique needs that have to be met if a mutually supportive space can be created.
As a teacher it is his specialty in meeting the needs of each student and creating a trust that helps the lessons flow with much ease and joy.
“Its truly remarkable how in the “role” of a teacher I’m often the one being taught. I’m being taught how to engage each student on a level that is specific to his/her needs. Once those needs are met a space of trust is created and in that space of trust creativity flows easily and the lesson experience is one of fun, challenge, and excitement.”
He also performs professionally with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Hollis Peach, and King Roy Wing.
